244 Superintendent Kim Spacek and the Board line up for unanimous support of the supplemental levy on 3/11/24.

Thank you to those 244 Supporters who were able to attend the board meeting last night (3/11/24), there was a fantastic showing of support. In fact, the library was full. Thank you to those of you who wrote emails to the board last week. Thank you to those that spoke to the board last night. Thank you to those who held up “No More Cuts!” signs.   Lastly, thank you to the Varsity Blues Singers for a beautiful rendition of the Nation Anthem. Your efforts made a difference.

The board unanimously voted to move forward with placing a 2-year, $2,936,000 levy on the ballot for the election being held May 21st, 2024.

The board did not fully align last night on the verbiage to be placed on the ballot specifically related to what the levy will fund. There was a lot of back and forth related to how that wording needs to be handled according to compliance around ballot language requirements with the Literacy Law (HB 790).

The board also shared a list of cuts with the public should the levy not pass. This list was drastic in measure and included over 30 items such as

  • Closing of CV and Elk City

  • Staff cuts

  • Academic cuts

  • Co-curricular & Athletics cuts

The list of cuts was initially only $2.5M, about $400k short of what is needed to fully operate the district should the levy fail. During the course of the meeting the board added a few more items to that list to bring it closer to the $2.9M gap.

The next steps for the board is to finalize the ballot language to include what the levy will fund and submit it to the election commission by 5pm on March 22nd.

There were some positives last night to include unanimous support for the levy and on a few occasions there was audible support from the board members to go back to their constituents and ask them to support the levy.

Thank you for your continued support!

Continue the push to support the levy and get out and vote.
